As a community, we strive to create a safe and equal environment for all individuals. But, know that there is still much work to be done when it comes to achieving equality for women.

On International women's day I want to hear from you - our members both women and allies about what you would like to see us do to improve equality for women. We value your opinions and perspectives and believe that your input can help guide our efforts in creating a more equitable future.

I want to hear your thoughts, ideas, and experiences with us in the comments section below. Some questions to consider include:

What are the biggest challenges facing women in our technical roles?

How can we work to ensure that women have equal access to opportunities and resources?

What policies or initiatives do you think would make the most significant impact in advancing equality for women?

What would make more women feel welcome in the community?

I appreciate your participation and look forward to hearing from you on how we can continue to move forwards!

I know that not everyone wants to speak and if you would like to listen instead please do listen to our Member of the Month Lesley Case who has shared her experiences in the industry as a developer as well as advice for women and allies which you can read in her blog I'm Not a Traditional Developer - Women In Automation.

What are the biggest challenges facing women in our technical roles?

Lack of representation I think for me. I used to see fewer women in technical roles, which can be quite daunting and demotivating when looking into these roles.

How can we work to ensure that women have equal access to opportunities and resources?

Tricky one! If there is a way to anonymise the hiring process that could help! Of course, making sure opportunities are available for everyone, so no one feels excluded from training/development opportunities.

What policies or initiatives do you think would make the most significant impact in advancing equality for women?

Promoting diversity and inclusivity in hiring, promotion, and leadership positions.

Flexible working for parents and equal parental leave.

What would make more women feel welcome in the community?

Provide mentorship and networking opportunities for women in technical roles.

Highlighting the achievements of women in technical roles to provide role models and inspire more women to pursue careers in the tech world 🎉

Such an important topic and really great post @Grace Lanser 👍

    Love this Grace.

I don't know, but I would love to see the answers - it's really important that we make our Community and our industry as accessible to all as we can.

And this thread isn't just for today, but for every day - any ideas that people have to make our initiatives and programmes more inclusive, do let myself or a member of the team know.

    Hi Grace

Love that you're asking our community their thoughts on something so important and helping to breakdown the gender bias in Tech.

    Here's my thoughts ....

What are the biggest challenges facing women in our technical roles?

That's it still widely thought of as 'a man's world' and that women are relatively new to this space. That might be true but also all different people (no matter their gender or background) can bring a variety of skills, creativity, thoughts and opinions to the table. I believe women are still daunted by what they deem to be technical roles but we all had to start somewhere.

Reframe this fear and think of it as self development and investing in yourself and your future to learn more that might be a little out of your comfort zone

How can we work to ensure that women have equal access to opportunities and resources?

I believe we do!! We certainly do more than many organizations and we continue to drive equality! In all of our departments we have a mix of genders, we are treated equally and we all have a voice. I believe we treat all our customers equally also.

What policies or initiatives do you think would make the most significant impact in advancing equality for women?

We need to bring back Women In RPA for a start and to ensure that our job descriptions are more attractive to all people

What would make more women feel welcome in the community?

Perhaps aligning back to WIRPA again and to have some guest spotlights on women in tech and how their career's have progressed in this space.

    Hope this helps

What are the biggest challenges facing women in our technical roles?

Women is an all rounder, they need to balance both career and personal life. Women who has support spend their time on learning and shining like star in tech roles, unfortunately for all the women scenario is not the same. Only few percentage of women are able to work in technical roles due to lack of support. For working mothers, Carrier gap also one hindrance which does not make women not to move fast in carrier field.

How can we work to ensure that women have equal access to opportunities and resources?

Enabling Flexibility in Roles and Work Schedules.

What policies or initiatives do you think would make the most significant impact in advancing equality for women?

Encouraging women by conducting mentorship programs and Providing equal opportunities to women.

Appreciation programs can be conducted to appreciate women for motivation.

What would make more women feel welcome in the community?

By providing more opportunities to women.
