  • 1.  Outlook VBO

    Posted 07-10-2023 01:48

    Hello everyone,

In production we are getting one error with outlook while getting items from folder or moving items to another folder is "RPC Server is unavailable". Sometimes when we restart the machine or reopening the blue prism helps. Can anyone suggest a solution for this error?

    Thank you

This  issues can come from a lot of different reasons.

    Here are a few fixes mentioned in a quick Google search;

"The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA)" error may occurs. There can be a few reasons for this error:
    1. It was an issue with RPC ports, verify Firewall opened the full range and Try to run setup completed.
    2. The remote computer is blocked by the firewall.
Solution: Open the Group Policy Object Editor snap-in (gpedit.msc) to edit the Group Policy object (GPO) that is used to manage Windows Firewall settings in your organization. Open Computer Configuration, open Administrative Templates, open Network, open Network Connections, open Windows Firewall, and then open either Domain Profile or Standard Profile, depending on which profile you want to configure. Enable the following exception: "Allow Remote Administration Exception" and "Allow File and Printer Sharing Exception".
    3. Host name or IP address is wrong or the remote computer is shutdown.
Solution: Verify correct host name or IP address.
    4. The "TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper" service isn't running.
Solution: Verity that "TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper" is running and set to auto start after restart.
    5. The "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)" service is not running on the remote computer.
Solution: Verity that "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)" is running and set to auto start after restart and.
    6. The "Windows Management Instrumentation" service is not running on the remote computer.
Solution: Verity that "Windows Management Instrumentation" is running and set to auto start after restart.

Are you killing Outlook using Blue prism before or after start of the process ? Then just avoid doing that. I tried that way and fixed my issues.

    Hi @sravya chintham

The most common reason I've had this error it was because the ms office application was still trying to complete another action when i was attempting a new one. This is something i've found most in both outlook and excel for example if you are using the latest version of the outlook vbo and using the sync action, depending on how many mailboxes you have set up and the size of the mailboxes it can take a bit of time to complete the sync and if its still doing this when you try a Get mail action you can see an RPC error.

Is the Get mail action the first thing the bot does when the process starts? if so then try putting in delay in the schedule after the login to give enough time for outlook to open after the bot has logged in. If you are doing an action in outlook like sync followed by Get mail then try putting a suitable wait period before doing the Get mail. Or alternatively you could put in a catch for the outlook action you are seeing this happen in and do a restart of outlook then retry the action.
