Though the value is getting selected but only on the front end. It is not refreshing its value in reality. I know that we can trigger javascript function to update its value. UIs are built for human users and sometimes robotic integration goes 'unnoticed' by the app's client side code. Rather than trying to guess which JavaScript to induce, it might be easier to make the robot behave in a more human way.
