What location did you put the batch file into?

This is the location for all users: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

I was going to show what our setup is, but I feel like you don't need that if it works when you manually run the file. I would expect that the batch file is just not in the right location for starting up. Either that or perhaps batch files are disabled from automatic startup. I've never heard of this, but it seems possible.

An alternative is that you could actually put a shortcut file in the startup folder that points to Automate.exe file and just include the standard flags such as /resourcepc /public etc. That will work the same as the batch file, unless you have special parameters that you're trying to pass. But even then you could just put those params directly in the shortcut file instead.

We use a batch file in the startup folder, but the only reason we do that is because on some machines we have special steps in the batch file, but you don't "have" to use a batch file in many cases.

Runtime Resource Showing Offline – Blue Prism Listener (Port 8181) Not Running Automatically

Hi Team,

I am facing an issue with one of our Runtime Resources.

In our setup, we have one Interactive Client and one Runtime Resource. On the Interactive Client, the Blue Prism Listener (Port 8181) runs automatically in the background without any issue.

However, on the Runtime Resource, the Blue Prism Listener (Port 8181) is not running automatically. Because of this:

- The Digital Worker is shown as Offline in Control Room.
- Process Scheduling is not working.
- Login Agent Login and Logout processes are not executing.

To resolve this, we created a batch file and placed it in the Startup folder to start the listener automatically. However, the batch file does not run automatically on startup. It only works when we manually execute the file.

Could anyone please suggest:
1. The correct way to ensure the Blue Prism Listener starts automatically on a Runtime Resource?
2. Any best practices for configuring Runtime Resources for scheduling and Login Agent?
3. If there are any additional configuration steps we might be missing?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Dave,

Thank you for your response and suggestions.

We have placed the batch file in the same Startup location that you mentioned:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

However, the issue still persists. The batch file does not execute automatically during system startup, but it works correctly when we manually open and run the file.

For reference, below is the batch file code we are using:

@echo off
timeout /t 10 >nul

tasklist | findstr /i "Automate.exe" >nul
if %errorlevel%==0 (
echo Blue Prism Runtime Resource already running. Exiting.
exit
)

start "" "C:\Program Files\Blue Prism Limited\Blue Prism Automate\Automate.exe" /resourcepc /public /port 8181

This script checks whether Automate.exe is already running and, if not, starts the Runtime Resource with port 8181.

Since the script works when executed manually, it appears that the issue might be related to startup execution or system policy preventing the batch file from running automatically.

If a shortcut file doesn't work, then your issue doesn't have to do with script execution being blocked. You may want to get Blue Prism Support involved so they can help troubleshoot your specific issue.

Personally what I'd probably do next is have a conversation with an LLM to troubleshoot what is wrong, and it will probably give all kinds of suggestions for things to check.
