All about Community Settings

Our Community is highly customizable, and you can tweak a variety of settings to make it behave in a way that suits you. In this article, we'll explore all the settings that you can change for your Community account.

How to access Community Settings

  1. Click your profile picture (in the top right of the screen)
  2. Choose "My settings"

Personal settings

The Personal Settings tab contains 4 pages:

  • Email
  • Password
  • Personal Information
  • Auto-sign in Options

Email

Here, you can turn email notifications from the community on or off. Note that choosing Don't send me any community emails turns of ALL emails from the community platform. If you would prefer to tweak the things you're notified about instead, see How to change your notification settings.

Password

Note that your password cannot be changed in Community Settings. To change your SS&C Blue Prism Portal password:

  • Log out of the Community
  • Click the Login button
  • Click the Forgot Password link on the login screen.

Note that this will change your password for ALL SS&C Blue Prism customer websites, including the University, Digital Exchange and Support Portal.

Personal information

  • First Name / Last Name / Title
Use these options to change your real name. Note that your real name is not displayed to other Community members by default. You can change this in Privacy settings.

  • Signature
This box allows you to enter text that appears at the bottom of every post you create in the community. It's useful if you like to sign off with the same words every time you post, or have something which you would like to link people to. Note that this box should not be used for promotional purposes as this is against the Community Guidelines.

  • Location
You can use this box to tell other Community members where in the world you are located. You may also need to change your privacy settings if you would like this to be displayed to others on your profile page.

  • Personal web page
You can link to your personal webpage here and display this link on your profile by changing your privacy settings. Note that you must not use this link to promote goods or services in the Community, as this is against the Community Guidelines.

  • Biography
You can use this box to tell other Community members about yourself! The text you enter here is displayed on your profile by default, but you can choose to hide it in privacy settings. Most members use this box to let others know their job title, employer and experience.

Auto-Signin Options

Here you can choose whether or not to automatically sign in to the Community when you visit on the device you are currently using. You should only turn this on for private, trusted devices.

Preferences

The Preferences tab contains lots of options that can help you tweak the look, feel and behavior of the Community to suit your needs. Here you'll find:

  • Preference options
  • Display
  • General
  • Linear Layout
  • Threaded Layout
  • Home Page
  • Privacy
  • Private Messenger
  • Likes
  • Events

Preference options

  • Time Zone
Use this setting to define the time zone you are located in. This ensures that all times displayed across the Community are correct for your location.

  • Language
Our Community only supports English (US) currently.

  • Ignore HTML
If you would like to prevent the Community from interpreting HTML, you can turn this option on. Note that this isn't recommended, and may break the appearance of most of the content you will see in the Community.

  • View signatures in posts
Other Community members can set signatures which appear at the bottom of every post they make. If you would prefer to never see these signatures, you can turn this option off.

  • Automatically subscribe me to topics I participate in
This option ensures that, when you make a post or comment on any discussion in the Community, you'll receive a notification when there are other contributions to that discussion. Turning this option off will mean that you wont be notified if others continue the discussions which you have also participated in.

  • Show confirmation pages for posts
Turning this option on will ask you to confirm that you're ready to publish your post before it is shared with the community. Turning it off will publish your posts immediately after you have pressed the "Post" button.

Display

  • Format for displaying posts
Here, you can choose how conversations in the Community appear. If you choose Linear, conversations will be displayed in chronological order. If you choose Threaded, replies to a specific comment will be displayed immediately beneath that comment. Unless you have a strong preference for Threaded, we recommend Linear, as it allows you to fully understand the context and development of a conversation.

  • Topics per page
This setting changes the number of individual posts you will see listed in any forum, per page. Choose a smaller number for faster page loading times, or a larger number to reduce the number of times you need to click "next page" to see more posts.

  • Display menus dynamically with mouse over
You can turn this option on to automatically open any menus in the Community when you hover your mouse over them, which is useful if you're a superuser or have difficulty using a mouse.

  • Show folder icons for new posts and hot or read-only topics
Turning this option on will add a variety of icons to posts that indicate whether they're considered "hot" (eg. lots of discussion!), "new" (eg. recently been posted) or read-only (eg. closed to replies)

  • Date display format
Here you can change how the Community displays dates. By default, this uses the European system of day, month, year (dd-MM-yy). You can change it to the US system by typing MM-dd-yy

  • Display dates as
You can choose whether to show dates and times as relative to the current time (eg. "three days ago") or as an absolute time (eg. 09:00, 17-02-2024) here.

  • Turn on quick reply
Quick reply allows you to reply to a discussion without opening the full post editor. It's a super-fast way of contributing to discussions, but it lacks many of the features that can make your contributions excellent.

General

  • Mark posts as read
Here, you can choose when the Community considers a post as "read" by you.
    • When I read them marks posts as read once you've clicked on them, and is the default.
    • Automatically, after the auto-mark period expires uses the setting below to automatically mark posts as read a number of days after they have been posted.
    • Automatically, when I log off marks all posts as read when you log out of the Community.

  • Auto-mark period
If you chose to mark posts as read automatically, you can set how many days must pass after a post is published before the Community marks it as read by you.

  • Sort topics by
Here you can choose whether to sort posts in the community by the date the conversation was started (Original Posting Date) or the date of the last reply (Time of most recent post). We recommend Time of most recent post, which will ensure that active discussions always appear at the top of your Community activity feeds.

Linear layout

⚠️ Note that the options on this page will only take effect if you chose Linear in the Format for displaying posts option earlier in this guide.

Here you can further tweak the appearance of posts in the Community using the Linear layout. We recommend leaving these setting at their defaults.

Threaded layout

⚠️ Note that the options on this page will only take effect if you chose Threaded in the Format for displaying posts option earlier in this guide.

Here you can further tweak the appearance of posts in the Community using the Threaded layout. We recommend leaving these setting at their defaults.

Home page settings

This page allows you to tweak how the home page of the Community appears. Here you can:

  • Change the number of bookmarks, online friends, private messages and subscriptions to display on the homepage at community.blueprism.com
  • Change whether to display different community components, such as the list of the latest posts

Privacy

Here you can change the visibility of the personal information you provide in your community profile. There are 3 options available:

  • Showing information to All will mean that everyone, including visitors to the Community who have not logged in, will be able to see it when viewing your profile
  • Friends only will only show the information to other community members who you have added as a friend
  • No one will prevent that information from showing to anyone (note: members of the Community Team will still be able to see it).

Private Messenger

Our Community comes equipped with a private messaging system that allows you to directly exchange messages with other community members, without creating a post that everyone can see.

  • Turn on private messages allows you to choose whether to turn this feature on or off. Note that if you turn this off, you will not be able to receive or send private messages.
  • Number of private messages lets you tweak how many private messages to display per page in your inbox
  • Receive email notifications for private messages sends you an email every time you receive a new private message if turned on

Likes

This page lets you customise the Likes feature of the community. For those of you who used our old community, this is akin to the Recommend button.

You can choose to prevent the Likes button from displaying if you wish, however note that this is only a display setting and will not prevent other users from Liking your posts (you just wont be able to see the number of Likes).

Profile Picture

Your Profile Picture is an image that is displayed on your profile and alongside every contribution you make in the Community. Adding a custom profile image is a great way to help others understand who they are talking to, and make your posts in the community stand out.

To add a profile picture:

  • Choose From the Community to pick from a few default images that we have provided, or upload your own image from your computer. You are able to use most image files as a profile picture, including JPEG, PNG and GIF
  • Choose From my Albums to use an image which you have previously uploaded to the Community as part of a post
  • Choose From the Web to use an image URL instead of a file

Macros

Macros are time saving automations that enable you to quickly add content to your posts. Using the Macros page, you can save any text or HTML that you commonly use in a post. Then, when writing a post, you can use your Macro to add your saved text or HTML instantly.

To set up a macro:

  • Click Save at the bottom of the page

Note that not all HTML tags are supported for security reasons.

Once you have saved a macro, you'll see a new option when creating a post:

Subscriptions and Notifications

As you use our Community and interact with content, you'll start to receive notifications containing updates about that content. Everyone has different preferences when it comes to being notified, so we recommend that you spend some time reading the How to subscribe, bookmark and change your notification settings guide which covers this in detail

That's it!

If you made it to the end of this post, well done! We recommend bookmarking this page to ensure that you can always find guidance on the different community customizations available to you.

Don't forget that you can reply to this post to ask questions about community settings, or submit your ideas for new customizations in the Community Suggestions board.
