Bot moving to warning state

SutirthaGupta

Hi All,

While we are running the bot from the scheduler, bot is going to warning state. If you manually login to that VDI, then bot again turning to active and working as expected.

Any insight?

Hi @SutirthaGupta

The warning state indicates that an action is taking longer than normal to complete. These can be a few scenarios that might cause an unwanted warning stage such as infinite loops, if object tries to attach to an application but is taking a longer time or if a large file needs to be handled at times.

I would suggest two things here. First you can try and increase the warning threshold time from the System tab as shown below from the default 5 min which will work for all stages in all processes/objects:

Secondly, check your log viewer for the session where you see this issue and identify which stage is causing it. You can also override the warning threshold for that particular stage from the stage properties after double clicking on it in Process/Object studio and changing the warning threshold to 'Overridden' state and providing the minutes parameter:

Hi Sutirtha,

When this happens again, check if the CPU Utilization for the VDI is 100% or not. If yes, then further investigation on the processes running on the VDI would be required to know what's causing the utilization to go at 100%.

hi  @SutirthaGupta,

Apart from awesome clarification given by Devneet which state why Warning status will reflect in Control Room and how to make not to appear this.

Below are some of case mentioned why warning state appear in your automation as per my experience

-There are Excel Pop Up/ message which bot is not able to handle like poor exception handling in Macro.
- Your Target application throw a pop or goes in hang state
- I have seen it coming in citrix based application as well where pop up around citrix receiver/ newer version of Citrix receiver show up on screen.
- On java based application - Pop up asking for java to update
- Outlook password prompt due password incorrect.

Please note that warning state is also not logged in DB.

There is  a time out feature feature which can be configured and used to stop the bot after configured time  Link given below.

Thanks Devneet for detailed explanation, but the problem is, if you run the process after logging to the VDI from control room, we are not able to find any problem.

Hi Neeraj,

Yes we are using excel but it does not contain any macros or pop ups.

Let me check the eventvwr logs too, to understand that more clear.

Hi Sutirtha,

I have faced similar issues and followed below steps:
1) rebooting the resources to keep its health intact (which is the default step for all issues)

2)  When you are using user defined objects , make sure the threshold is set:

3) Verify if resources are turned off all the Screensaver settings

4) Excel causes this issue often - Check if you get any Excel account logout or Licence expired notification is popped while trying to open the application.
In such cases, it will not throw exceptions within the process but resource would run into warning state.

5) Also verify the disk space available to open the file.

Hope any of the above steps help
