Questions on Windows upgrade where Blueprism is installed

Hello Team,
We have an issue in getting emails triggered from Blueprism. This has been since o365 migration took place. All the accounts have been moved to cloud.
Windows version: 2008 R2
Outlook Version: MS outlook 2010
Blue Prism version: 5.0.23
our BluePrism is configured to use MAPIEX VBO object to handle email.
So, our infra team has suggested us to enable TLS 1.2 inorder to upgrade office version or outlook version to a higher one.
So, could you kindly suggest what would be the consequences that should be faced if TLS 1.2 is enabled? Will it effect the existing processes or BOTs in our current environment?

Regards,
Sush

Hi Sush,

MAPIEx v2.0.6 requires a locally installed desktop version of the MS Outlook mail client. As Outlook 365 is a cloud-based application it is not suitable for use with the MAPIEx VBO. This may very well be the cause of the email issues you're seeing since migrating to this new version of Outlook. In order to use more modern versions of Outlook, you may need to upgrade Blue Prism to v6.3 or above and implement usage of the Outlook VBO instead of MAPIEx.

For your question about TLS 1.2, you can refer to this KB article: "Does Blue Prism Enterprise support the Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol?".
Essentially, the version of SSL/TLS used for any secure (HTTPS) connection is determined by the highest available version on both the client and server - so for example:

  • If versions 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 are available on both the server and client - TLS 1.2 will be chosen.
  • If versions 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 are available on the server, but only version 1.0 is available on the client - TLS 1.0 will be chosen.

We would recommend discussing this configuration with your Infrastructure team before making any changes, as these settings can impact any application or service which utilizes secure (HTTPS) connections.

Hello Steve,

Thanks for the clear response.
Our Infra team informed that they can upgrade outlook version from 2010 to 2016(Not cloud), so that they can configure an account and make the outlook application available to use for Blueprism. So inorder to do this TLS1.2 should be enabled in Registry.

Hence they are expecting us to confirm if Blueprism gets impacted in such cases as we are not sure if everything will be back as expected if the change is reverted.

Thankyou!

Regards,
Sush.
