Spying Issue on MS Edge Chromium

Hi,

When I am attaching to already running browser, it attaches without any issue. But unable to spy in Browser mode.

And when I launch the edge instance via BP then I can spy with Browser mode. Seems like a bug to me.
Can anyone confirm.

BP version - 6.10.1

Edge version - 90.x

Yeah, it's a bug. I reported it to Blue Prism already, and they've confirmed it is an issue. Granted, I reported it regarding Chrome, but typically any issue affecting Chrome will also affect Edge since they likely use the same code on the browser extension side and they're both based on Chromium.

Hopefully it gets fixed in the browser extension so that 6.10.1 will work for that scenario rather than it not being fixed until v6.11 or v7, but I believe we'll know something relatively soon.

Hi Dave,

Has this been fixed in v7? As I am experiencing this with 6.8 and want to make sure it's fixed. Do not want to go through the effort of upgrading if it is still an error?

For v7.0: I just tested it again to verify and yes the issue appears to be fixed in v7. I cannot promise how reliable it is because I haven't developed in v7 for production processes yet because we're still on 6.10.1, but I've used v7.0 on my own machine a fair bit, and browser mode seems to work well and with no limitations that I can find at the moment.

For all versions including v6.10.1 and below: It turns out that the way this works, unfortunately, is that the way Sarang describes it is what happens when Fixed Port Mode is turned OFF (When the Browser Connectivity Checkbox is UNCHECKED at the bottom of System tab > System > Settings). When that checkbox is unchecked, Ephemeral Port mode is on. When using this mode, Blue Prism cannot attach to an instance of a browser that was manually launched. I agree that it should not be this way, but not much we can do if Blue Prism says that's how it has to be for now.

The workaround is to make the checkbox CHECKED in order to use Fixed Port Mode (Turn off Ephemeral Port Mode). There are some benefits and drawbacks to each, but I've found having that box CHECKED in general is a better experience. The main limitation is that you cannot use two browsers at once. You can use two instances of Edge at once but not Edge and Chrome at the same time because the port will conflict.

Hi Dave, we have several runtime machines where we schedule blue prism automate to launch at the time of login. Is there an argument that can be added to ensure fixed port mode is being used or would we just open blue prism on those machines and make sure it is checked in the settings? Maybe it doesn't function this way but thought I'd ask as this seems to impact about half of our RTMs.

Hi @Kyle Densley,

The Fixed Port Mode setting is environment wide, so once you've set it once from any Interactive Client, it'll be applied to everything that connects after that to the same Blue Prism environment.
