Upgrade 5.012 to 6.3 version

We wanted to upgrade blue prism from 5.012 to 6.3 version .Current version configured with SQL server 2012 but we wanted to try 6.3 version with SQL server 2016.   Is that possible we can take database backup of SQL server 2012 and restore the same in SQL server 2016 which will not make impact for 6.3 version?   if we do so, Would we be able to run upgrade script through installed 6.3 version with DB server having lower version database schema?

Sounds like a SQL Server question rather than a BP question. My guess to 'can a backup from 2012 be restored to 2016?' would be Yes. I'm no SQL expert but I'm pretty sure I've restored backups into newer versions of SQL before. Assuming the new DB is successfully created from the backup, then running the v6.3 upgrade script should be no problem.
