Active Queues
Active Queues elevate the existing work queue functionality by providing a queue-centric approach for dynamically controlling the number of Resources operating against a given Queue at a time. This provides the maximum flexibility to adjust the number of Resources assigned to collaboratively work items in the queue based on business demands and is available in addition to the original capability of simply assigning Resources to a process.
A comparison of an Active Queue and a Work Queue is they are essentially the same as they are created in the same way and both store Queue Items though there is additional configuration for an Active Queue. An Active Queue also cannot use Resource Pools.
For a Work Queue, a Session must be created against a Resource, Resource Group or Resource Pool. The selected Resource(s) would then work that Work Queue until all Items have been worked.
For an Active Queue, there is no requirement to create an initial Session. When an Active Queue has been configured with a Resource Group, the Active Queue can then be managed directly for how many Resources of the Group work on the Active Queue at a given time.
