NOTICE: Support for Microsoft Information Protection Labels (aka Sensitivity Labels) in MS Excel VBO

Today we released version 10.4.0 of the MS Excel VBO on to the Digital Exchange. This version introduces support for Microsoft's Sensitivity Label feature in Workbooks. There are two actions you can leverage if your organization makes use of Sensitivity Labels:

  • Get Workbook Sensitivity Label Info - This action will return any existing Sensitivity Label information that's been applied to a specified Workbook
  • Set Workbook Sensitivity Label Info - This action is used to set a new Sensitivity Label on a Workbook or change an existing label value. NOTE: This action should be called before you attempt to save a newly created Workbook. Also, if you try to downgrade and existing label, your organization will likely require that you include a justification with your request. There, we've exposed an optional Justification input data item on this action.

You can find the latest VBO here:

Hi Eric,

I was testing these new actions, and I found the following:
-For Excel files created with Blue Prism, the label works.
-But for existing Excel files where you want to modify the label, it doesn't. The error is Could not execute code stage because exception thrown by code stage: Excepción de HRESULT: 0x80040400

It doesn't matter if it's updating or downgrading the label, both cases fail.

@acatalano so you're able to open the Excel file and perform work on it, it's just these actions that don't succeed? What versions of BP and Excel are you using?

Cheers,
Eric

@ewilson Correct, only Set label action doesn´´`t work for existing files.

Blue prism version is 7.3.1 and excel 365 MSO (version 2412)

@acatalano ok, so you can get the label info but not set or override it. Looks like we're on Excel 365 version 2408. We'll run some more tests to see if we can recreate your issue. Stay tuned.

Cheers,
Eric
