Overwrite of Default VBOs ?

Hi Team,

Default VBOs with updated actions have been added to the DX. So we can directly overwrite with existing VBO or we should import it as a separate object?

Let's take an example of the below Collection VBO. It's already part of the default VBO provided by BP so should I overwrite it or not?

@ewilson I guess you are the best person to answer this.

Yes, the VBOs from the DX contain that same actions as the legacy VBOs included in the BP install. We try not to make breaking changes, but if there is a case where that is unavoidable, we include information on the asset page's release notes.

Hello @_Amlansahoo

It's up to you and what your organization sees as best. Personally, I replace existing VBOs with newer versions as we introduce new actions or bugs fixes. If you import the newer versions as separate objects you'll be creating new names and object IDs which means the new VBOs can't be picked up automatically by existing processes. Instead, you would have to go back and edit each action stage to reflect the new VBO.

Thanks Eric. Just one last question, Do those VBOs contain the existing actions that come with default VBO and add new actions or fixes on top of those actions?

If yes, then we are good to go with replacing the existing VBOs. There is no point in keeping two separate VBOs for the same.

we are following the approach on what eric mentioned . saving each version with different VBO will create a lot of copy plus process need to be repointed to newer object.

True !!

Overwriting is the correct approach as post deployment to production environment, it's not advisable to make any changes to production directly. Hence, we should always aim for making minimal changes, therefore, the overwrite is the best approach.
