#BPTechTips: Quickly Identifying Element(s) in Application Modeler

Tech Tip: Quickly identify and locate specific elements in the Application Modeller, even when the structure is complex or naming conventions are unclear.

When working with elements in the Application Modeller, it can sometimes be challenging to identify a specific element. This can happen due to inconsistent naming conventions, poorly structured elements, or if you're a new developer unfamiliar with the setup. Even developers who are familiar with the object might face difficulties locating elements,.

Here’s a simple approach to make this process easier:

  1. Find the Element in Use: If you know where the element is used, open the stage containing it.
  2. Use "Show in Application Explorer": Right-click the element in the stage and select Show in Application Explorer.

  1. Identify in the Application Explorer: The selected element will be highlighted in the Application Explorer panel on the left side.

  1. Open Application Modeller: After using Show in Application Explorer, open the Application Modeller, and the same element will be focused and visible.

This technique saves time and effort, making it easier to work with existing elements regardless of how they are structured in the Application Modeller.

To illustrate this scenario, I intentionally used similar names for most of the elements in the Application Modeller. This setup highlights how difficult it can be to identify the exact element in the Application Modeller, even when searching through the Application Explorer.

By using the Show in Application Explorer functionality, you can quickly locate and highlight the specific element, streamlining the process even in cases where naming conventions are unclear or elements are poorly structured.

I’ve observed that many developers often skip using this feature, instead relying on manual methods to locate and identify the element.
