Best way to read tabular data (into collections) from powerpoint files

All - We have a process which needs to extract data from powerpoint files (Tabular data) and perform certain operations. What is the best way to read tabular data (possibly into collections) from powerpoint files ? Do we have any other alternative options other than surface automation? Please share your experience Thanks
