Does BluePrism V6.10.2 require 32-bit Access Runtime 2013

Sheela

Hi Team,

Could you please help me understand why BluePrism V6.10.2 require 32-bit Microsoft Access Runtime 2013.
Is BP V7.x resolves this issue?

Regards,
Sheela

@Sheela Parthasarathy,

I believe this has to do with the fact that the Automate.exe executable, which is the core of digital workers, is a 32 bit process.

@ewilson

Thank you for your response.
We are trying to be compliant with latest version on Microsoft.
But there is an non-compliant raised against office 2013 plugins(Microsoft Access 2013 Runtime 15.0.4569.1506 ) used by BluePrism.
Could you please confirm that automate.exe is related to this.

Also I was exploring and I can see OLEDB is also depend on old version of Microsoft Access.
Not sure if this is relevant.
Also one of the Tech lead mentioned, that 32 bit dependencies will be removed in BP Version7.x.
Could you please confirm this.

Is there any document which states this dependencies of 32 bit?

Sheela

@Sheela Parthasarathy,

I've reached out the Product Managers to see if they can comment about support for 32-bit applications, but I'm certain that's not going away. Even in v7.

Regarding the Access runtime, I assume you're referring to the OLEDB VBO because there is no requirement within the core Blue Prism platform on the Access runtime that I'm aware of.

Hello @Sheela Parthasarathy,

Thanks for your question.

The Blue Prism Interactive Client and Runtime Resource are currently 32-bit applications, which is why the 32-bit Access Runtime is required. I understand that the OLEDB VBO is currently built in such a way that this uses 32-bit drivers to interact with products such as Microsoft Access, Excel, SQL Server, etc. as a result of the 32-bit nature of the Interactive Client and Runtime Resource.

With regards to plans for future development/product releases, we are planning to update Blue Prism to convert the Interactive Client and Runtime Resources to 64-bit applications in an upcoming release - provisionally targeted for 7.2 (expected Q4 2022). This will be appearing on the roadmap in the very near future!

Regards,
Rob

@robert.nicklin

Thanks a lot for your response.
I can understand the dependencies now.
Even though we install 64bit BP, automate.exe(interactive and Runtime) is 32 bit.
So this 32 bit will allow only 32 bit MS access runtime 2013.

Could you please provide any document or any link which indicates that 64bit will be part 7.2 version.

Sheela

@robert.nicklin @ewilson

Thank you for your inputs.
Currently we are using Microsoft Access 2013 Runtime 15.0.4569.1506, which has Microsoft Office remote code execution vulnerability
So Microsoft had provide  KB50002124 for Microsoft Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures CVE-2022-21840.

Could you please let me know if there is any suggestion/official communication provided from BluePrim for this vulnerability.

Hello @Sheela Parthasarathy,

Within that KB article, there are links for both 32-bit and 64-bit patches. Applying the 32-bit patch should address the issue.
