Object External

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on the following functionality within BP. I can't seem to find any documentation on it, and can't find anything on Google either. Presumably it's something to do with Web Services and calling an external object? Apologies if that is an obvious question. Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Many thanks,
Ben

Hi Ben,

External Object is used for interacting with legacy windows applications with no API. Applications which do provide an API may well be more suitably automated using a COM business object.

Any COM object can be called from a Blue Prism process, provided it implements the required interface. If your COM object of interest does not implement this interface, then you may wish to create a wrapper for it, and expose the wrapper as a COM object. Any such COM object must be registered in System Manager before it can be used from within a process. This is only recommended if you have an existing COM object to wrap; this is what the Objects > External system tab is used for.

External business objects are there for legacy purposes only and should not be considered for any new development.
