Oracle Database Connection

Hello, I have to connect to a Oracle Database. After many issues, finally I could set the connection to Database, but now I have to open a session  or something like using BEGIN k.session#.open_session; END; before running SQL. I do not have a clue how to do that. Can anyone help on that please? Thank you very much
