Proper DFD Misc Parameters for detecting signature

ncstephe
Level 3

Hello - having some difficulty properly detecting signatures across a few different DFDs. The signatures are generally quite stark (black against a white background) and the capture region appears to be searching in the correct spot, but consistently returns a "false" value until the region is manually redrawn in data verification.

Wanted to clarify whether "checkmark" was the recommended format type for validating a signature is present. Secondly, wanted to understand what misc parameters might help. I have attempted to increase sensitivity by using low values for RFT, CCL, and FCL (e.g., "RFT=5") but have had minimal success.

Any tips or ideas are appreciated, thank you!!

Hi @ncstephe,

On more recent versions (2.2+) of Decipher you have a "Signature" field format available, which is optimised for detecting signatures. Its advantages over checkmark are:

  • 3 potential outputs, signed, not signed and not found (checkmarks only have true and false, false could mean not signed or not found)
  • Decipher looks for keywords below the field as well as to the side (checkmarks only look to the left)
  • Data verification shows "Signature region density" when you hover over the field

The last one helps when setting the RFT to an appropriate threshold.

If you're on an older version of Decipher you'll have to use the checkmark field type, but it will be missing these features.

Thanks
