Peter is correct - usually you should be able to read the element or text you want rather than having to extract it from a larger segment of text.
However, if you do find you need to parse some text to extract what you need, I can recommend reading the 'Extracting data from text' section of the Interfacing with PDF Documents guide, available in the Learning area of this Portal.
