Software Versions

Blue Prism intelligent digital workers are super organized, multitasking software robots that work within your existing systems, technology and applications to automate business processes. From repeatable and predictable to challenging and complex, digital workers effortlessly deliver any task they're assigned. As with any Software to ensure that you get the most out of your digital workforce it is best that it is kept up to date. Making use of the latest version of Blue Prism ensures that you have all the latest performance fixes, security fixes and functionality enhancements. You can check the product portfolio roadmap to give insight into what our plans are.

As with the Blue Prism software you need to ensure that not only all the versions of all the software that are automated as part of your business processes are kept up to date but also the software that underpins the Blue Prism platform. Specifically, the versions of Windows and SQL Server. Windows, Windows Server, and SQL Server follow a Fixed Lifecycle Policy that provides.

  • A defined support and servicing Lifecycle timeline at the time of product launch.
  • A minimum of five years Mainstream Support.
  • An additional period of Extended Support for some products.

Mainstream Support is the first phase of the product lifecycle. At the supported service pack level, Mainstream Support for products and services includes:

  • Incident support (no-charge incident support, paid incident support, support charged on an hourly basis, support for warranty claims)
  • Security update support
  • The ability to request non-security updates

The Extended Support phase follows Mainstream Support. At the supported service pack level, Extended Support includes:

  • Paid support
  • Security updates at no additional cost
  • Ability to request non-security fixes for select products, for eligible Unified Support customers

Given this information below is a summary of Windows, Windows Server and SQL Server versions and their current Support Status.

NOTE - Windows 10 Home and Pro follows the Modern Lifecycle Policy. This applies to the following editions: Home, Pro, Pro Education, Pro for Workstations. Microsoft will continue to support at least one Windows 10 Semi-Annual Channel until October 14, 2025.

As you can see only Windows Server 2016, 2019, Windows 10 and SQL Server 2017, 2019 are currently in mainstream support. If you are not using one of these versions, I would highly recommend during your next upgrade to move to the latest version to give you more time in mainstream support before you have to think about upgrading again. Even so, Windows Server 2019 is only in mainstream support until 2024 which is a little over 2 years away, it may be worth waiting for Windows Server 2022 which is due to be release later this calendar year.
