Spying an application within a virtual desktop, within the BP VM

NicKear

Hi All - I'm a BA working in the automation space and have a feasibility question please.

I'm having some issues visualising the process I'm trying to map, with limited BP skills to support our more experienced development team.

As a business, we're attempting to mimic a process where the human logs in to a virtual desktop provided by another organisation and performs a series of actions in SAP, they're copying data from their regular desktop in to the virtual desktop and then adding parts of that data directly in to SAP.

We’re struggling to assess the feasibility of spying the SAP application within the virtual desktop if BP itself is running on a VM.

If you have any experience of spying a similar scenario, were there any struggles or hurdles that made spying difficult or prevented the automation from running correctly?

It feels a bit like Inception, just with a little less Leonardo DiCaprio.

Hello Nic Kear,

I would like to see if we can better understand your question. If you are just trying to Spy SAP then there are some things to consider, which can be found in this article:
How to enable SAP Spy Mode : (blueprism.com)
This and a few other articles are good sources for working with SAP, as it can be tricky.

If this fails or you are trying to automate SAP through a thick client ( aka an RDP session or VM with a console view) where Blue Prism is on your local PC, and SAP is on the RDP machine, then you will need to use Surface automation.
You can find more information on how to work with surface automation for free on our university site here:

Thank you
