In general, there is no difference between a GUID and UUID. Both are 128 bit identifiers. UUID is defined via IETF RFC4122 whereas GUID was defined by Microsoft for the Windows O/S. If you dig into the definitions you may find some nuance about the data used to generate specific octets of a UUID/GUID, but for all intents and purposes they are the same thing and can be used across systems.
