Worktype & Queue character limitation

Worktype & Queue lengths are extremely limited (10/8 characters) and require intentional misspelling of words to make it fit.  

We would like to create longer names and/or have a longer description stored in admin that would display in Processor to more easily communicate the transaction to be processed by users.

If the character limitation cannot be expanded due to a technical constraint, would it be possible to establish new type 1 LOB paired with each of these that would house a 30 character business description? 

IE: UNIT = AB, UNID = Alpha Beta. WRKT = DCF, WRKD = Dog Cat Fish.

This would allow us to confirm to the limited length, alphanumeric constraints of UNIT, WRKT, QUEU, and OBJT, while also presenting a user friendly version of these values within the UI.
