ActiveX Component cannot be handled unless hooked

I was trying to spy the menu tree of a windows application. When I'm trying to read the values available in that menu tree (so that I can click on the option which I required), It's throwing an error similar to 'ActiveX component cannot be handled unless hooked'. Does anybody have any idea, what this error is? How can this be handled?

'Hooked' implies 'application hooking', which is a little used feature of application modeller. You may have noticed a checkbox in application modeller called 'Restrict to non-invasive automation techniques'. This is ticked by default, and unticking it enables 'hooking' when the business object launches the application. It's very rarely needed (I've maybe used it twice in 12+ years) but may be worth a shot on your application. Search for 'hooking' in the Help for more details.
