Attach problem with Run As Another User

LilianaFernand1

Hello!

I kindly ask your help for the following issue that I am facing:

I am launching the Internet Explorer application through the Command Prompt ("run as another user"), since it is necessary launching the application while logged with a different user. This will open the Windows Security window, that will allow us to enter the credentials, necessary to launch the application.

When we run the code, it is shown the following error message “More than one application matched the criteria”, and consequently, it fails to attach the Internet Explorer window. In fact, if we open the Task Manager > Details there are two "iexplore" processes running. One is the parent and the other the child.

We have tried the following alternatives:
  • Changing the Child Index to 0 and 1
  • Configure Internet Explorer to not create multiple processes by creating a registry key and setting its value

Thanks in advance,
Liliana

Hi Liliana,

Instead of launching it from the cmd, can you instead try launching it via blue prism App Modeller? To launch as another user you can enable the 'prompt for Username-password' option for IE by following these steps - https://www.document-genetics.co.uk/resources/blog/323-set-ie-to-prompt-for-username-and-password

Hopefully this will solve your multiple IE processes attach issue. Let me know how you go.

PS - Hope you're aware that Microsoft will stop supporting IE on 17th Aug this year.. You will need to move all your IE operations to Edge, Chrome or Firefox. Blue Prism does provide a browser migration tool to assist you with this - https://digitalexchange.blueprism.com/dx/entry/3439/solution/application-modeller-conversion-tool
There's a video to guide you towards using it better - https://community.blueprism.com/blogs/bruce-liu1/2021/03/31/browser-migration
