I get the following error, when checking my code: 'Val' is not declared. It may be inaccessible due to its protection level.

Have you set it up as input? If so could you please explain the code you used?

You are using a variable you have not declared either by using it as an input/output parameter to the code stage or declaring it at the start of the code stage.
