Firstly, ,make sure you are always building your processes based upon the Blue Prism Process Template (an example of it's use is in the solution of the Lifecycle Orientation training module). This template ensures you have best practice exception handling (so that your process does not just fail if there is an issue).
Regarding your specific quesiton, you can use the Status on the Work Queue item (you should always be using work queues) to mark when different parts of your process have been completed. All you then need are decision stages to skip sections of your process that have already been worked.
