Foundation Training - bprelease run task

BernadetteStroe
Level 4
Hi there,

The material for the setup task to import release shows a step to load queue, and run. I don't get to the process page shown in the instructions and there's no run button. This is what I see. I tried the create process step as well and it's the same. No page or toolbars.

Thanks for any advice you may have.
I've got the learning edition installed on my laptop.
Regards
Bernadette

Hello Madhur

I've finally got BP working. I'm soooo excited to finally get started learning how to use it. I did some troubleshooting. First I checked various security and windows settings. Then I tried to run the msi file as admin and realized that this was disabled on my laptop. I assumed that, as the laptop owner, I was also automatically admin. Not so with Lenovo. So to resolve this I had to uninstall BP, enable admin using cmd, request a new licence, download and start fresh.

That install and use as administrator is hugely important. Took it for granted on previous laptops.

I hope this will help other newbies that run into the same issues.

Thanks again Madhur. Because of your support, and a very helpful lady called Ruth via email, I kept going and got a win!

See you in the forums.
Regards
Bernadette

Hey Bernadette,

First off, congratulations on starting your Blue Prism learning journey. If this is the first time you are exploring RPA, you are in for one exciting journey.

Now with regards to running a process, you need to double click on the process or object name. This will open the process or object in a new window where you will see all necessary tools available. You can open multiple processes and objects at the same time as well.

As a general guideline, if you do not see the menu option you need, it is always a good idea to right click on the screen element. In most cases, you will find the right option in the popup menu. An example of the options available for an object is below.

Hope this helps.

Hi Madhur

Huge thanks for the quick response. I'm already excited at this learning opportunity. When I double click no new window opens. Could that be due to some kind of setting? I still cannot get to step 10 (pic below from the slides).

Best regards
Bernadette

Hey @BernadetteStroe,

This is interesting. I don't believe it's a setting that's preventing you from opening the process. Did you try right clicking on "Load Queue" and do you see a popup menu like the screenshot in my previous message? You should see active options in the popup menu to "View" or "Edit" the process. It will help if you could please attach a screen shot of the menu.

In addition, could you also please attach a screenshot of the "About" info? You can get to it by clicking on the "?" on the top right of the window and selecting "About" (screenshot below). This will popup a window with version information.

Hi Madhur

I really appreciate your time on this! I see that a window is trying to open when I double click on a process, but then it closes in 2 seconds. Here's the snip of the About info.

Cheers!

Hey Bernadette,

I'm happy to help =]

Thanks for the screenshot. Since you are at least seeing the process window open (even if for a bit), it seems to me that the issue could be environment related. Are you running BP on your local machine or in a VM? I will suggest installing BP on another machine, if you have access to one. If not, I'll suggest installing it in a VM and see if that works.

In the meantime, I'll try to research this more and see if this is something that has been experienced by other users and if there's a solution out there. Please let me know if you're able to install it on another machine/VM and if it helped resolve the issue.

Regards.

Hello Madhur

No luck with the VM I'm afraid. Unable to connect and start the application. I tried the various remedies to connect via RDP. Haven't given up yet though.

Hey Bernadette,

My apologies, I should've asked this sooner; are you able to open any other processes and objects in Blue Prism and is the issue only with the release you imported? I ask because the Foundation training course first walks through basic concepts including various process and object actions. Were you able to follow those steps and implement those in BP?

If the answer to the above question is yes, I'll suggest re-importing the release and if that still doesn't work, create a new connection and try importing there. Please let us know how it goes.

Regards.

Hey Bernadette,

You're not alone, I took admin access for granted as well and didn't even think that it could be the issue. I am glad you got it working... woohoo!! =]

Thanks for sharing the troubleshooting steps. This will definitely come in handy for others trying the install.

Regards.
