Changing Run mode of BP VBO to Foreground from Exclusive

ManishRaw

Hi Team,

Can we change the default run mode of BP provided VBOs from Exclusive to Foreground?

We require to run background process on our machines, but since most of the running process uses BP provided VBOs that have the run mode set as exclusive, we are unable to do so.

We have the below VBOs in our environment:

Usually the MS VBOs Excel, Outlook, Work etc. have b as Exclusive, can we change that to Foreground or will there be any impact of this?

Hello @Manish Rawat,

You are free to change the VBOs as you see fit.

My own personal recommendation would be if you're going to change the run-mode of the standard VBOs, you're probably better off changing them to background. That's actually something we've started doing with most of the legacy VBOs that are hosted on the DX. This is why I always recommend people to pull the latest VBO from the DX instead of using what's included in the installer.

Cheers,

Hi @ewilson,

Thanks for the reply!

That will be helpful 🙂

Just to double confirm for the MS VBOs like Excel, Word, Outlook also, we can change the mode to Foreground or Background (as suggested).

Asking about them specifically, as they interact with the respective applications viz. Outlook, Excel etc. installed on the machine, and running multiple background process would not hamper or interfere with one another?

Hello @Manish Rawat,

Yes, in fact, the versions that are on the DX (for Excel and Word) have already been changed to Background I believe. Outlook is still set as Exclusive because of the execution model of the Outlook client itself (you can't have more than on instance of the Outlook client running at one time).

Cheers,

Hi @ewilson,

That's superb!

We have downloaded the Excel and Word from DX now 🙂

For Outlook as mentioned, there should be only one instance running at a time so can we change the mode to Foreground?

As this will allow only one Outlook instance to run at a time and also to run other background processes in parallel if needed.
