Database changes when Blueprism changes versions

Hi Experts, Hope you are doing fine.

When we test connection with different versions of Blueprism, we often see the error  " The chosen database has been upgraded by a version of blueprism which is newer than the current version.You may use this version of blueprism in conjunction with the chosen database. Database version:xxx Required version: yyy"

This usually happens when we connect a lower version of Blueprism to a SQL Server that was upgraded by a higher version of Blueprism earlier.

Could you please let me know what actually happens to the DB in this case. One would assume lower version of BP should be compatabile with a higher version of DB, if not the other way round. 

Does every DB upgrade by Blueprism completely change the table names and structure of the DB etc?

Most versions of BP include changes to the database, and each version of the software is hardcoded with the version of the database it needs. When you test the connection, BP checks the database version with the required version and displays the message if they are not compatible. Occasionally there will be a version that hasn't changed the database, in which case the there will be no need to run the DB upgrade scripts. But this is a rarity, usually a database upgrade is required.

Yes, that's true. Generally blue prism releases database updates with new updates to the product. But post upgradation of the database, all your existing processes work with the new structure and everything happens automatically during the upgrade. So every lower version will be compatible with higher version.
