Difference between CyberArk and BP Credential Manager

KarthikaPalanis

Hi All,

What is the difference between CyberArk Vault and BP Credential Manager?  or What is that Vault gives over and above what Credential manager does? Reason for asking is, I see the same set of features as below for both

1. Secure storage of password
2.  Recycle of password (Via Change Password for BP) , for Vault (its automated)
3. Encryption algorithm (AES 256) for encryption/decryption

Except for the fact that Vault is exclusively designed for password management

Hi Karthika,

I would imagine some of the core functionalities are similar, as you've detailed. However, when it comes to managing the credentials for your digital workers, Credential Manager is a fully integrated part of Blue Prism. Making it easy for your digital workers to securely store and access their passwords. Here are a few of the key features of credential manager:

  • 3 Encryption algorithms available, AES-256 (AESCryptoService), AES-256 Rijndael Managed, and 3des 192-bit
  • Built in actions to read/write/generate passwords
  • Passwords can only be accessed by the digital workers (great for demonstrating a secure environment)
  • It can also be used to store API keys and tokens, usable directly in the respective API configuration
  • Additional passwords for a credential can be stored securely as "Properties"
I hope that helps.

Thanks

Hello - Adding to Ben's inputs, most organizations have a password vault (like Cyberark) to store passwords in a centralized manner. The Audit & security teams monitor reports from the password vault for controls & compliance, so they prefer using existing password vaults over BP credential manager.

Thanks a lot Ben Lyons and Vinodh Kannan Krishnan for the information above.

As per your experience, have you seen Latency issue between Vault and BP , particularly in case of large number of bots with concurrent and repetitive hits?

Also if Cyberark is down for any reason , then ideally it brings downtime to Blue Prism, as we are dependent on it for the credentials. How do we overcome this?
