MS Excel VBO - performance degradation

SajitValloli

Hi All,

We have a process which is having MS Excel (Office 365) as is target application. When it was deployed to production, the interaction was fast and bot was able to read data from excel to collection very quickly. Over the time, the time taken by the bot to read data from excel to collection is taking more time for the same set of record counts. Due to this, the bot has started to miss the SLA and its causing issues for business. Please advise if anybody has encountered such a scenario before? We tried clearing temp files but it didnt help.

Version of BP:6.2.2
Run time resource RAM: 12GB
RR OS: Win10
RR Office version: Office365

Please help!

Thanks,
Sajit

A few more questions to hopefully try and narrow down the source of the problem:
- Is Excel the only application that has this issue?
- Do other processes which use Excel also have this issue?
- Has the Excel VBO been customized in any way?
- Which action are you using?
- Have you tried using the OLEDB VBO instead to read in the file to a collection?
- Does rebooting that Runtime Resource temporarily fix the issue?

Working with office applications is very slow through interop libraris and com objects.

I'm instead using EPPlus (https://github.com/JanKallman/EPPlus) to read/write excel files directly without needing the excel executable running

@Brian Christensen how did you run EPPlus from blue prism? What is needed for this?

I faced this issue while accessing excel file from the share folder. As part of that excel file, while BOT performing write collection it was taking long time and suddenly blueprism was crashing.

Later for testing purpose we kept the input file in local desktop drive and tested it was working as expected.. Hence, our issue which is related to share folder slowness and the same we informed to our internal IT team and later they fixed it, till now we are not facing any issues.

or else try approach which is suggested by Brian Christensen
