Open JDK

Because of Oracle licensing change to charge for Java JDK, our company decided to go for Open JDK.
We are now trying to figure out what it means to use Open JDK instead of Oracle JDK.
We noticed WindowsAccessBridge DLL is not located in the expected Windows folders anymore but only the the JRE folder.
This might be cause by the way on how Open JDK is deployed as files & folders, in contract to Oracle Java installer.
We could not verify the Open JDK functionality in regards of automation yet. However, the lack of any documentation in that regards (in sparse documentation in general) makes me worry about the feature coverage now and in future.

Do you have considered Open JDK or maybe already use it regularly?
What are your experience and impressions?

Thanks & Regards

Hi Walter,

I was looking through tickets to see if there were any other customers that mentioned trying to use this new Open JDK and I only found your ticket.  🙂

This is the first time I heard of it but I would encourage you to maybe put an entry into our Ideas Portal for a feature request to support this technology.

I hope you can possibly hear if other customers are somehow using this technology.

Hi

Came across a thread which suggests that WindowsAccessBridge DLL file maybe in different folder?

Thanks for your reply.

The Java issue referenced by the link you posted mentions the misplacement of DLL in the wrong Windows folder.
However, I don't understand even the possibility of how this might happen since the official distribution (reference binary built) of Open JDK for Windows is provided as ZIP file without any installer, to be found here: https://jdk.java.net/15/
So I am wondering how this reported issue could even happen in the first place.

Maybe I am missing something?

FYI, also interested in switching to OpenJDK because of the Oracle licensing change. Suspect many Orgs are going to be checking it out.

Have not had the opportunity yet to install / Validate myself.

The ideation links are broken 🤔

Any new updates on this what version of BP supports Open JDK now?

@Tejaskumar_Darji

Support for AdoptOpenJDK version 8 and Azul OpenJDK version 8 for automating Java applications was introduced in Blue Prism Enterprise v7.2.0. The references for this enhancement are BP-9337 and BP-9625 in the v7.2 Release Notes
