Screen resolution different on VM than on local machine

Hi all,

We have been experiencing soms problems with running our bots unattended because the screenresolution on the VM is different than on the one on our local machines. The resolution on the VM is much smaller and we are researching what direction we have to look for the solution. We have asked the VM administrator to reset the resolution to our standard (1920x1080) upon logon. So far no success with that yet, maybe it is not set up correclty yet but maybe we have to look into the direction of the bot itself?

I am not that familiar with the different types there are to logon to the VM. We are using RDP if we want to enter the VM (not ideal I know). But what kind of method/type of logon does the bot use itself? This is a bit of black box for me. Does this type of logon have influence on the way we should configure the screen resolution?

Happy to hear your thoughts....

Best,
Nanne

Good morning.

BP do not control the resolution use with login agent connect to a Runtime Resource. Speak to your IT department and ask them to increase the resolution for these sessions from the default of 1024x768.

Failing the above, if a resolution is really a factor, set the developing screen resolution to 1024x768 and re-spy your elements at that size.

Have a good day.

Hi,

as Luis wrote below you have two options:
1. check the resolution of VM and set up local machine resolution to the same and re-spy everything. Well, not preferred way ;).
2. Ask IT (sometimes they will say they do not how but push them there is the settings depending whether you are on VMWare or HyperV or anything else) they can set up default screen resolution which must be the same as your local machine.

Hi.

for accessing VMs we are using vSphere web client. IT can quite easily set access based on AD, what user can access what machine, it has even some logs and we setup possibility to access the VM via WebConsole (directly in the web browser) or via VMremote client. I like this solution. We had as well issues with resolution, as the new VM was changing the machine resolution based on window size.. for this, IT implemented some workaround (more applicable for the VMremote client) so our VMs are having fix 1080p  resolution and you cant change it.

Im not familiar much with your RDP solution, could it be maybe the RDP is setup to lower resolution changing the VM resolution in the same way like we have experience it with vSphere? So IT setup 1080p, but you log in, with 768p and VM adjusted automatically to this resolution… maybe its stupid idea, but who knows 😄
