Direct connect from BP client to runtime resource?

Walter.Koller

Hi,

In an enterprise deployment of Blue Prism with an application server, a runtime resource and Blue Prism client, each installed on its own machine, each of them is directly communicating with each other. client -> app server, app server <-> resource, client -> resource

What is the reason to have clients directly communicate with resources as Control room executions are handled via application server?
In a set-up where application server bridges two networks, resources seem to be 'not connected' although fully functional, just because the client in one network cannot reach the resource.

Or did I miss something?

You are right on the the connection side. However in an enterprise installation we would need a separate interactive client for Bot controllers/process managers with limited privilages in Blue prism application (dedicated role with less privileges than a system admin. eg:excecuteprocess, viewsession and queuelogs, control active queues, import and export releasefiles but not to modify any security ,encryption, license settings )

inbound connection form client to resource and vice versa should be allowed on network for the manual triggering of process to work. if all process are scheduled you don't have to worry about connectivity from client to resource through port 8181 since schedules are triggered by appserver

Yes you are right only scheduled process will run but ad hoc executions on runtime resources in Control room fail because of the missing connection.
Although I don't see the advantage to have direct connection compared to have application server also handel all communication with robot resources.
Actually application channel communcation would enable global execution queue and other supervising features.

Thanks for pointing to the manual triggered process execution.

I think Interactive client will help when we have to deal with Controlroom and need to trigger BOTs on demand basis. Having controller only access will let the business user trigger the BOts.
