What you are missing from your logic is a number data item. Your read stage reads into a data item and then your calculation stage will have an expression to manipulate that data item.
Everyone doing the Blue Prism training should be allocated a more experienced user as a mentor (someone internal to your organisation, or from one of our Partner organisations, or if you are working for a Partner it may be a Delivery Enablement Manager (DEM). Your mentor is the go to person for basic training questions, if you don't have one please raise that as an issue with your manager (mentoring is on the Accreditation training path).
